El Sadat advising President Morsi

Mr. Anwar El-Sadat "Head of the Reform and Development Party" expressed his reservations on the dominance practiced by Mr. Essam Al-Haddad "Assistant to the President for Political Affairs and International Cooperation" and the rest of his family through their position in the Foreign Affairs Department of the Freedom and Justice Party by drawing and planning the country's foreign policy in isolation from the expertise institutions which are responsible in front of the people and their representatives. He said this with his full respect to their background, which does not exceed some experience in a trading company for managing exhibitions, as well as some foreign Islamic humanitarian relief projects abroad.

However, the indications are not so comforting because of President Morsi's delay in announcing his rejection to the violence that took place in front of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo nor his condemnation for the killing of the American ambassador in Libya, along with his extreme sensitivity in dealing with the file of the Egyptian-Israeli relations and his leniency and compromise with Hamas in Gaza with all the ensuing negative implications on the security of Sinai.

He proposed the idea of a quadripartite committee between Saudi Arabia - Iran - Turkey - Egypt to resolve the Syrian crisis, and albeit this is an appreciated effort yet it is doomed to fail for various reasons. While (new) Egypt is reviving its leadership and pioneering role in the Arab region, it should have never offered its foreign policy on a gold platter to a group of amateurs under a regional and international situation that is so tangled and inflamed. Egypt needs to build an atmosphere of trust and respect necessary for starting a real revival and development in view of the existing economic circumstances and financial predicaments.
