El-Sadat meets members of SCAF to discuss the parliamentary elections



Mr. Anwar Esmat El-Sadat (founders' representative of the Reform and Development Party) met with members of SCAF (Supreme Council of the Armed Forces) in the presence of some advisers of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Committee for Elections as well asmembersofthe Egyptian government todiscuss the bestways andproceduresto conductthe upcoming parliamentaryelections. They also discussedissues related tothe Emergency Lawand the Treachery Act(excluding leadersof thedismantledNational Partyfrom political participation). The discussions extendedforseveralhours with representatives ofpolitical partiesand members of theEgyptianSupreme Constitutional Court. The meetingis expected to extend till five o'clockpm.
El-Sadat confirmed that SCAFwas keen ongiving thepolitical powersfull freedom to choosethe electoral systemthey deemed suitablewhile maintaining both the candidate-based and closed list systems. They listened to everyone without excluding anystream or partytoensure apolitical consensuson thelaws. As for the discussion about the number of constituent districts, SCAF gave much attention to thediscussionand the exchange ofviewsparticularly for areas with special natureasit appeared that including them will lead toproblems inrepresenting all their communities. This is done to ensure more comfort for the political powersand relievetheir reservationson the elections law. SCAF also promised to provide fair and open elections.
