Anwar Esmat El-Sadat, founders' representative of the Reform and Development Party, confirmed that Egypt is in need for international monitoring on the next parliamentary elections since it will grant it the needed acceptance and international legitimacy confirming to the world that we are indeed taking our first steps towards democracy.
El-Sadat confirmed that the international monitoring of the elections - which will include monitoring, observation and screening - will strengthen the monitoring role of the Egyptian civil society and that refusing it does not comply with the law of political rights which states that it is within the competence of the High Elections Committee to put the regulating rules for both the civil society and international participation in following up all the phases of the elections.
El-Sadat also confirmed that most of the world countries consider international monitoring to be a recognized method in all elections including many Arab countries that are much less in their political and regional levels than Egypt. Using international observers in the elections or referendums does not mean dispensing with the local ones; it just complements the work of the internal control systems and it is a method used in most countries of the world.
