In view of the ongoing doubts on the subject of foreign funds received by some associations and human rights organizations, Anwar Esmat El-Sadat (elected member of the Board of Directors of the Federation) requested Dr. Abdel-Aziz Hegazi (Chairman of the Federation's Board) to accelerate the formation of a transparency and accountability committee to be responsible for compiling and tracking all the local and foreign funds obtained by NGOs and civil companies for implementing service and community projects in Egypt.
This committee will be concerned with following up the stages of any requested funding to ensure its conformity with reality in terms of clarity and transparency in addition to following the implementation of these projects. The committee will provide full reports on the projects to the Federation, the media and the fund donors till the completion of the parliamentary elections which will in turn be entitled with receiving these reports. These report will contain the achievements and failures of all institutions and associations that have received funding, and based on the reports necessary measures will be taken with any association that did not adhere to the rules governing civil work in Egypt, or did not adhere to the rules stated in the provided projects pursuant to the principles of transparency and accountability.
El-Sadat added that this initiative is better than requesting the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) for things that are outside their scope of work and that affect the independence of the NGOs and the core of their work and specialization, at a time when SCAF is swamped with enough homeland issues.
