Mr. Anwar El-Sadat, Head of Reform and Development Party (RDP) commends the directives of President Abdel-Fattah Sisi to urgently clear the canals and drains and to cease violating the Nile River. Those directives was given in a meeting with Engineer Shereef Ismaeel, the Prime Minister; Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Minister of Housing; and Dr. Mohamad Abdel-Atty, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
El-Sadat highlights that those directives will mitigate the suffering of farmers and will facilitate reaching water for irrigations of lands. It will also protect water channels from pollution and will foster citizens' health. Also, Water treatment should be done safely and new methods of irrigation should be adopted.
El-Sadat stressed the RDP launches a campaign named (Our Water is Our Life) within a context of challenges like El Nahda Dam and others. This campaign is a national attempt to preserve water now and in the future raising awareness so as to impede wasting water. Among the important matters in the agenda of the campaign is to issue a stamp duty for water to be imposed on the industrial and fun usages of water like Golf Courts, clubs, aqua parks, gas stations and gardens of villas and palaces. Also, owners of touristic resorts on both sides of Cairo-Alexandria Desert road should pay such stamp duty. The campaign is also seeking drafting a law to manage the usage of groundwater; and how to dig for it and preserve it.
