El Sadat: I demand halting the constituent assembly and I will resign my position in it if the draft of the constitution is passed in its current form

Anwar El-Sadat (Member of the Constituent Assembly) demanded Counselor Hossam Al-Gheriani (head of the constituent assembly) to halt all the activities of the constitution constituent assembly till the Higher Constitutional Court finally settles the issue of its existence, for fear of passing the draft of the constitution in its current form which was rejected by all of the national powers without exception.

El-Sadat confirmed that he will start focusing all his efforts in coordinating between the various political and national powers so they can all sit and discuss ways for halting the constituent assembly till its case is finally settled. It is expected that the Higher Constitutional Court will not come out with any decisions about the constituent assembly before two months at least. This will give ample time for finalizing the draft and proposing it for referendum much before the session of the Constitutional Court.

El-Sadat added that it will be a great shame on the whole of Egypt if the draft of the constitution passed in its current form without any national consensus and without replacing all the articles that raised reservations or controversy.

He assured that if anything else other than that happened he will present his resignation so as not to have a part in this sham that the future generations is expected to pay costly for.
