El-Sadat calls the Human Rights Council for an urgent meeting

Mr. Anwar El-Sadat (President of the Reform and Development Party) called the chairman and the members of the National Council for Human Rights for an urgent meeting to discuss the phenomenon of a large number of Egyptian Christians requesting immigration and political asylum to some Western countries. He considered this matter as very serious because of the rift it causes in the national fabric and the waste of these Christians' legitimate rights as Egyptian citizens and partners. In addition it will also open many doors to tribulations at the hands of extremists from both religions.

El-Sadat stressed the need to reassure them quickly through positive messages and actions to make them feel safe and protected through immediate legislation and laws affirming their right of citizenship, non-discrimination and equal opportunities.
