MP Anwar El-Sadat "President of the Reform and Development Party" said that although the August-24 demonstration has passed with its pros and cons, whether we agree with it or not, supported or not, yet it proved clearly that there is a flaw and a rift in the society that is about to split. A new sense is beginning to emerge, even if just within a few, that Egypt is in a real crisis and that what we are experiencing now has nothing to do with the change we called for by the great January revolution.
El-Sadat stressed that the small numbers that came out to protest on August 24th does not mean that the rest of the people, which did not come are satisfied with the current situation, but there are circumstances and priorities that have bound many people to mind the current circumstances by providing some stability to give a chance for any change to transpire. This must be taken into account by the president and his aides and they have to keep it in mind and into consideration.
El-Sadat confirmed that this confused Egyptian scene requires the president and his party to send assuring messages to the Egyptians on both the internal and external levels, either with respect to our affairs and situation in Egypt or with respect to our agreements and our international obligations. We must all have a serious stand with ourselves to determine our goals and understand what is happening in Egypt before we find ourselves caught up in a vicious circle taking us back again to square one.
