MP Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat "Head of the PA's Human Rights Committee" commended the instructions issued by Counselor Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud (Public Prosecutor) in the Periodic Book which he sent to all members of the public prosecution at the level of the Republic. He also notified the PA's Human Rights Committee to discontinue applying the provisions of the Emergency Law as of May 31 which is the date set for ending the state of emergency in Egypt. He further emphasized the need to address the thuggery phenomenon that prevailed all over the country.
El-Sadat pointed out that the Public Prosecutor did not just stop at that, but he also issued instructions to refer all the crimes that were under the perusal of the State Security Emergency courts to the ordinary felonies and misdemeanors' courts. He warned against the usage of exceptional force which was adopted by the Emergency Law in custody cases and the recording or monitoring of phone conversations. He stressed the need to focus on the thuggery cases which have a negative impact on the safety and security of the homeland and the citizens. All of this asserts that the Public Prosecution is on the right way towards applying what the revolution called for from the first day: freedom, justice, dignity and respect for all human rights.
