Dear Mr. President/ Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi,
President of the Arab Republic of Egypt
Hope this letter finds you well and Happy New Year.
No one can deny your tremendous effort together with the State agencies. Also, your daring decisions for economic reform that are coinciding with the suffering of the Egyptian citizens are unforgettable.
Your call for reform of thought and renewal of religious discourse is highly appreciated and respected internally and abroad. We are in a dire need for those calls especially after witnessing the terrorist actions that resulted from extremism and ignorance. There is a great role played by Al-Azhar and the Egyptian Churches to combat such destructive ideas and to reflect the tolerance, patience, love and non-violence of Islam and all heavenly religions.
As we are approaching a new year, we hope that Your Excellency may, with the same enthusiasm and effort, liberalize the political discourse. Thus, we shall witness real talks and discussions, even if there are wide differences, as an application of democracy and encouragement to the civil and national societies to play their role and to bridge the gaps and remove the barriers.
I am sure that you consider the civil society as a co-partner in development. Hence, it should be granted an opportunity and encouraged with providing facilitations within the framework of rule and sovereignty of law and a state of citizenship, equality and justice.
Your final message to the Egyptians to stand still and be patient for 6 months is a real responsibility and call for action and work. Parliamentary Representatives and opponents are ready to exert effort and contribute to rebuild our homeland.
We are at a decisive moment that w should play our roles, treat people with just and equality and combat corruption. We should get rid of the concept of conspiracy theories against Egypt. Egypt is great with its people, history and future.
May Allah grant you all serenity and guidance.
Yours sincerely,
Anwar El Sadat
