El-Sadat Confirms: Not Running for Human Rights Committee Chairman

Parliament Member/ Anwar El Sadat, Head of Reform and Development Party (RDP) declares not running for Human Rights Committee Chairman for the current session. He pointed out that it is obvious that the current trend is to restrict the role of the committee in its second session in addition to the restrictions exercised in its first session.

El-Sadat pointed out that this trend is continuing and evident. It is reflected in the in the nature of the candidates who are backed and supported by the presidency of the House, and the Security Agencies. The HRC has been heavily crowd by those candidates since its first constitution. However, the committee, in comparison with others, has an expanded large number of candidates. A group of former members of the Committee and candidates has submitted grievance and objections to the Speaker of the House to reject this undemocratic practices.

El- Sadat stresses that this situation is unacceptable and that respect for human rights is one of the main pillars of development and stability. He assured that despite all these intentions to impose restrictions on the committee, he will continue exercising his role as an active member in HRC. He highlighted that he will work on all plans and projects to promote and strengthen human rights in Egypt, and he will continue helping and assisting all believers in and supporters to human rights. He aims at a society that dignifies its citizens and safeguards their rights. He urges the Parliament Members to consider this issue conscientiously and to refuse limiting their work in their various committees.
