El-Sadat: Awaiting reviewing NCHR Law, however, in vain

Parliament Member, Mr. Anwar El-Sadat, Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee stated that the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Law should be finalized so as to be approved by the House of Representatives. He added that he was expecting that the law is to be reviewed during the Cabinet's meeting yesterday as promised by the Prime Minister and Justice/ Magdy Agaty. He got this promise in a meeting with them and the heads of Parliamentary entities and chairpersons of the committees and commissions. However, none of the promises was fulfilled.

El-Sadat clarifies that the enactment of the NCHR law will enable the council to perform his duty and play his role according to the constitutional; and international conventions, treaties and recommendations competencies made and concluded by Egypt. Such competencies is to guarantee economic and social rights and to monitor treatment in prisons and jails especially recently. According to recent reports there has been violations of Human Rights and the report concluded with recommendations in line with the articles of the constitution.

El- Sadat sheds light on an important issue, that is the NCHR is to be reconstituted as its term is about to expire. Hence, a new NCHR is to be constituted and it has to be granted more competencies to be able to function effectively and keep its advancement up as one of the best national councils worldwide.
