Muhammad Anwar El-Sadat, head of the Reform and Development Party, left Cairo International Airport today on his way to Washington DC, at the invitation of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars with a delegation of party leaders and parliamentarians, within the framework of the popular diplomacy rounds that roam the world to illustrate the truth about the June-30 revolution and the events and developments that followed it.
It is decided that El-Sadat will meet, during his visit, senior officials of the U.S. administration, the U.S. Congress, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, members of the Egyptian community in America, along with other meetings with think tanks and the media in order to clarify the truth about the latest developments in Egypt, the ambitions and aspirations of the Egyptians for a better future on a democratic and constitutional foundation that includes all the Egyptians.
El-Sadat pointed out that the meetings will emphasize the efforts of the Egyptians and their support for the road map and the proposed timetable for the referendum on the new constitution and the time set for the presidential and parliamentary elections in the coming months. They will also stress on the future of the Egyptian-American relations within a framework that is accepted by the Egyptians to maintain the sovereignty and respect for the Egyptian state.
