The Constituent Assembly debates with El-Sadat who threatened to take to the streets if the MBs manipulated the Constitution


The Rights and Freedoms Committee within the Constitution Constituent Assembly held today, Wednesday, a meeting to discuss theobservations handedby the Head of the Reform and Development Party(Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat)in thematerial concerned withdetention andimprisonment, theprisoners' rights, the right to political asylum, thefreedom of accessing information,unemployment,citizenship,child rights, the prohibition oftrafficking organsand educationalmaterials, and therighttohousingalong withsome observationson the wording of the draft.

El-Sadat confirmed, within the discussion, that the MBs attempt to seize control through their members, supporters and those who belong to them on the state institutions has become so obvious to everyone. He warned of any manipulation in the Constitution and threatened to withdraw and expose their practices and to request the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly if the Constitution did not allow more freedoms and if it did not guarantee the citizens' rights in having equal rights and duties, since it will be the Constitution of Egypt and not of a particular political stream.
