Statement of the Reform and Development Party about the attacks on the two Imbaba churches; Marimina and The Virgin

Anwar Esmat El-Sadat (founders' representative of the Reform and Development Party) expressed his extreme resentment and condemnation to all the attacks and injustice done on the Christians and their places of worship. Last of these attacks was on the two Imbaba churches; Marimina and The Virgin which were both attacked by hands that seek nothing but to destroy Egypt, spread strife amongst its people, aggravate the sectarian conflict and hit on all the soft spots that can take this country towards an unknown destination.

Because the Christian issue is the pivot on which the security and safety of Egypt is hinged and arising from our party's great belief that the first step towards solving any problem is admitting its existence.

Hence, Anwar Esmat El-Sadat the founders' representative of the Reform and Development Party is sending this urgent statement of the Supreme Military Council requesting the following:

1. Pursuing the culprits who caused these attacks at a maximum speed and court marshaling them instantly.

2. Enacting a bundle of laws to resolve this situation instantly, to absorb the sectarian conflict and to lift any form of persecution on the Christians.

3. Formulating a prompt mechanism to counter the security laxity and to reinstate the policemen back to their positions so they can practice their duties normally.

4. Taking all necessary precautions towards reforming the internal political process in such a way as to ensure more rights for the Christians.

5. Taking all necessary precautions towards moving Egypt into being a modern civil state based on justice and equality under the rule of law.

6. Enabling the Christians to build strong Christian organizations to monitor the political reform as well as the rights of the Christians inside and outside of Egypt.

7. Instantly holding extended national dialogues between Muslim scholars and Christians leaderships along with the political and national powers to try to reach radical solutions.

8. Taking a bundle of precautions that would, on the long run, ensure the change of this rigid culture towards the Christians starting from the school syllabuses and from the very first grades.

9. Forming awareness programs to warn against the harms that can endanger the unity of our nation or its future.

10. Offering more media outlets for the Christians rather than restricting them to the annual sermons of Christmas and Easter only.

11. Instantly working towards restoring the reverence and respect of the state and all its institutions in order to ensure that such incidents and attacks are not repeated again.
El-Sadat assured that the Reform and Development Party is about to launch the following:

1. An extensive campaign that seeks to study the causes leading to this sectarian aggravation and how to treat them effectively.

2. Launching a series of seminars to be attended by Muslim and Christian scholars to express the authentic features in both faiths and show that they both, in context, agree on the spread of tolerance and national unity.

3. Forming work teams from the youth of the party so they can spread in the streets and do some awareness to the people about the dangers of harming our national unity.

4. The party is also ready to extend any help for the victims of the attacks or participate in solving the problems of the Christians or alleviating their suffering.

5. The party is extending its condolences to the victims of the attacks and wishing for their relatives patience, relieve and an Egypt full of tolerance, love, security and safety.
