The Reform & Development Party attended a scheduled ruling session last Saturday, October 16, at the Political Party Chamber of the Supreme Administrative Court, to appeal last July’s rejection of the establishment of the party. The appeal, in response to the rejection issued by the Political Parties Affairs Committee, decision No. 438 (2010), was submitted by RDP founder Anwar Esmat el Sadat.
The session was attended by RDP founder Anwar Esmat el Sadat as well as RDP members and party candidates, who will run in Parliamentary elections this November. Mr. Sadat asked the court for a speedy decision on the appeal so that he and 17 other candidates can run for the parliamentary elections on behalf of the party. Despite the upcoming elections, the Chamber of Parties’ Affairs, headed by Judge Mohammed Abdel-Ghani, Chairman of the State Council, ruled to postpone the consideration of the appeal until January 2011.
In a statement made by the party founder, Mr. Sadat announced that he still has hope to receive an acceptance of the RDP establishment by the Court, and that he and the 17 candidates will not be discouraged from running in the upcoming elections. Mr. Sadat declared that he and the other 17 RDP candidates will run as independents in the Parliamentary elections.
